Learning Centres/Empower Stations

The Learning Centres/Empower Stations are housed at various locations throughout the Board. They provide an alternate classroom placement for students identified with a learning disability or having characteristics of a learning disability. The students chosen to participate in this program are struggling to function in an integrated classroom setting, and require a systematic and sequential skills based program.

The program implemented at a Learning Centre/Empower Station focuses on the development of literacy and numeracy skills, and technology skills, along with the development of self-esteem and self-advocacy skills. Students from St. John's who qualify to attend a Learning Centre/Empower Station would attend at Monsignor O'Donoghue Catholic Elementary School in Peterborough.
