History

Monsignor Leo Cleary and the Sisters of Saint Joseph opened St. Mary School, Port Hope in 1956 and then St. Anthony in 1960. An addition, including 8 classrooms, a gym, refurbished library and new office area, was added to St. Anthony in 1996. In December 2009, St. Mary School closed and a 2 story Primary/Intermediate wing was added to St. Anthony, including two full kindergarten rooms and a meeting room. The school now holds approximately 363 students from Junior Kindergarten to grade 8.

Did you know that...

• • St. Anthony supports Terry Fox,  The Giving Tree, Jump Rope for Heart, Cops for Cancer, St. Vincent dePaul, Green Wood Coalition, our local Foodbank and The United Way throughout the year. 

  • St. Anthony runs a food drive (Advent) and a clothing drive during the year to help out our local community. 

  • St. Anthony is particularly proud of our strong parent partnership as well as our partnership with Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Catholic Women's League and the St. Vincent dePaul Society. We have 19 members on our Catholic School Council. 

  • St. Anthony's dedicated staff offers co-curricular activities to students - balancing academics and athletic opportunities. 

  • St. Anthony boasts Smart Boards, Apple T.V. and speaker systems in each classroom, with ipad and netbook cart. .

Parish Information

The school comes together to celebrate monthly school masses at Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church, led by Father Gerard McMahon. The school also holds Monday morning candle lighting services at the school during Advent to reflect on the true meaning of the season. During Holy Week the grade 8 students present a dramatic Presentation of the Stations of the Cross.
